In about a month I am launching a free podcast called WRITER 2.0. It will feature interviews with authors working in every genre, as well experts from publishing and media. I will also have segments called “This Week in Writing” and “This Week in NOT Writing.” I am seeking for submissions for the “This Week in NOT Writing” segments.
Here’s what I am looking for: Short, funny stories—2 minutes maximum—about something you did in the last week INSTEAD OF WRITING. You probably know what I mean. Maybe you set aside two hours to write Tuesday afternoon, then realized you need pay your cable bill before you get started. The cable bill made you think of your favorite cooking show, Cake Boss, which, before you knew it, you were watching. The show made you think of your friend Susan, who also loves Cake Boss, so you called her. A little while later, you looked up at the clock and your two hours were up. You hadn’t written a word. (That wasn’t very funny, but you get the idea).
The stories DO NOT need to be 100% true. Feel free to embellish, exaggerate, etc. But they must be related to writing, or not writing, and they must be funny.
So, if you have a story to tell about something you did this week to avoid writing, record it and send it to me as an mp3. Most smart phones and computers now have free recording software. Feel free to just read the story, but perform it. Email the recordings to: podcast@acfuller.com
Each week, we will select the best story and play it on the podcast, with full credit given to the writer. We’re looking into a weekly prize, too. A t-shirt, perhaps?
Please pass this along if you know anyone who might enjoy this.

Like the podcast initiative! Did you already have The Hideyhole by Joyce Grenfell? I could send you the mp3. It’s a hilarious account of how ‘she’ writes her books, or rather how her books write themselves.

Hi Mina,
Thanks!
No, I don’t have The Hideyhole by Joyce Grenfell. Would love to hear it. To put anything of hers on the podcast we’d need her permission, of course, but please send it along.

First of all I would like to say terrific blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to find out how you center yourself and
clear your thoughts before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing
my thoughts in getting my ideas out. I do take pleasure
in writing but it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted just trying to
figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or hints?
Thanks!

Hello, A.C.,
My name is John Leister. I’m 55 and I live in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
I have twenty-one books on Draft2Digital and Amazon, including The Taking Of Red Star One Book One Towards Liberty and The Taking Of Red Star One Book Two Defending Liberty.
Here’s a synopsis:
The far future. Countries no longer exist. Neither does freedom. Burdened by the needs and demands of an over-populated world, President-For-Life Gabrielle LaRue orders Gov Star Naval Command to initiate war preparations against a planet called Liberty, which was terraformed and colonized decades earlier, by freedom-lovers who saw the writing-on-the-wall and fled Earth as the Gov was rising-to-power.
Captain Sean Hardy, outwardly, a loyal officer, inwardly, a rebel who yearns to see the Gov overthrown, is awarded command of Red Star One, a newly-constructed, state-of-the-art starship created for one purpose: to flag-ship the Gov-Fleet on the day of Liberty’s invasion.
During their shakedown-cruise, Sean, and his loyal bridge-crew, commit an act of civil war by setting Red Star One on-course for Liberty: not to invade her, but to defend her from the impending invasion.
If this sounds interesting to you, maybe we can video-chat on Messenger.
I’d love a chance to share my story with you.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Warmest Regards,
John
